Dear Friend,

Welcome to the first Cambodia's Hope newsletter!

This is the first of what will be an ongoing effort to keep all of our friends and supporters updated on all of the exciting work we are doing in Cambodia. These updates will be sent 3-4 times yearly, coinciding with Terry's trips to Cambodia. Occasionally we may also send out special announcements in-between these updates.

Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to hold the hands and heal the hearts of these amazing children.

We look forward to sharing all of our milestones with you!

Sincerely,

Cheryl Klauss, Terry Kellogg, Marvel Kellogg

DIRECTOR'S REPORT
I've just returned from nearly five weeks in the 'furnace' of the globe! Cambodia is hot in the springtime. In spite of the heat, the children are growing, happy and energetic and the projects are moving forward.

Palm Tree Center and the children are doing well. The excitement is high with the opening of our gymnasium - a remodeled section of the villa on the neighboring property purchased in late 2006 which also houses the girl's dorm and two rooms for volunteers.

The first day of floor hockey resulted in some bruised toes but mostly screams of glee.  However I was prompted to purchase twenty pairs of tennis shoes for everyone to take turns wearing during play. The roller blade hockey was a wild mix of chaos and ecstasy. It is clear this facility will be well used, especially in the extremely hot, humid weather and during the months of monsoons.

Visiting the rural village pre school programs in Kom Pong Speu province was both enlightening and heart wrenching. The pre school programs reminded me greatly of (continue reading >)

ON THE VOLUNTEER FRONT
My name is Jennifer Bonicelli-Anderson and I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Cambodia's Hope. I was born and raised in Colorado, graduated from the University of Kansas and am a Semester at Sea (S98) alumna.  My husband Jeff and I, along with our three dogs, reside in Dallas, Texas.

It was during a Semester at Sea reunion trip to the Bahamas in January 2007 that I learned about Cambodia's Hope and met Terry, Marvel and Sopahn Kellogg. Orphaned children have always had a special place in my heart. It was fascinating to hear how resourceful and influential the Kellogg's were with Cambodia's Hope. The bottom line was that they were doing amazing work (continue reading >)

BIG THANKS!
All of us at Cambodia's Hope want to acknowledge Ben Justus, a graduating student of the School of Hotel Administration of Cornell University. Ben was inspired by his travels to developing nations while on Semester At Sea and the life story of philanthropist Chuck Feeney and the book, "The Billionaire Who Wasn't" to initiate the organization EGBOK - Everything's Gonna Be OK. EGBOK is about providing service through service. The hospitality industry offers thousands of jobs in developing countries for people to provide for their families. EGBOK is dedicated to helping children and young adults receive education and vocational training to gain practical and meaningful careers. Cambodia's Hope has been the first organization for which Ben has raised awareness and funds. We offer a heart felt thanks for his service.

Cambodia's Hope was founded in 2003 to support needy children in Cambodia. Cambodia's Hope intends to create a nurturing environment for these children, enabling them to reach their highest human potential through health, education and recreation. We will support these children to become self-sustaining future business, academic and agricultural leaders of Cambodia.
