Needs and Expenses of the Palm Tree OrphanageTeaching StaffAs the number of children at the Palm Tree Orphanage increases, so does the need for teaching support. The Palm Tree Orphanage needs English, computer science, pre-school, art and music teachers. We also want to increase salaries and training for our current teachers. Currently, the Palm Tree Orphanage has seven staff members attending University, and several others are studying English and other subjects. Costs:
Maintenance and Operating ExpensesCambodia's Hope maintains the daily operation of The Palm Tree Orphanage. We plan to supply tents and camping equipment for future excursions throughout Cambodia as the land mine clean up continues and more of the country is safer to explore. Education is fundamental to our goals, and we want to set up an education fund that will offer young Cambodians opportunities for education that they could not otherwise afford. Costs:
Health CareThe Palm Tree Orphanage needs a director of health education and recreation to coordinate and teach sports, physical education, play, healthy living and hygiene. Also, as the children grow, they will have a need to learn about STDs, self protection and care. The newly constructed clinic and pharmacy needs a constant supply of equipment and medicine, as well as a supervising physician and nurse to come in on a regular basis. This new clinic can serve the children and staff of the Palm Tree Orphanage, as well as the neighborhood. Donations helped to purchase a Land Cruiser that has been outfitted as a medical support vehicle. It will provide medical service to the Farm and provincial areas. Costs:
Shelving/Furnishing for New ClassroomsAfter so much hard work, and because of so many generous donations, the second floor addition to the main Palm Tree building has been completed. This addition houses four large classrooms and an office, as well as a third floor open air structure with wall enclosures and a roof. This room is used as a play area or additional instruction space. This new space needs shelving, which is very expensive in Cambodia. Like any school, there is a constant need for classroom furnishings and supplies, such as white boards and markers. Any donations made specifically for school supplies are always greatly appreciated. Construction of the library has also been completed. Right now, it is a large room with little in it; supplies, books, shelves and other furnishings are needed to complete the library. Costs:
Ceramics ProjectIn January 2008, the ceramics project was launched by Martine Vermeulen. Donors have provided a kiln and some wheels, but there is a continuing need for supplies. Donations will help to pay for an on-site teacher, clay (which is very expensive in Cambodia), glazing and firing of the pottery made by the children. Sewing ProjectA hemstitch machine and two hand looms for weaving silk are needed for the sewing project. This project has enabled the children of the Palm Tree Orphanage an opportunity to make their own clothes and school uniforms, as well as items that can be bought at the Unique Boutique. Costs:
ExcursionsExcursions are important to the childrens' understanding of their country and their heritage. They learn as they explore and travel. Costs:
