About The Palm Tree OrphanageThe Palm Tree Center is a registered orphanage and school in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Located on a large city lot, the orphanage is safely fenced in from the street. 93 children (ages 4 through 18) live at Palm Tree and 33 people work there, performing the duties of cooks, teachers, drivers and medical assistants. There are large classrooms at the Palm Tree Orphanage, where the childrens' 4-hour Government school day is supplemented with classes in English, accounting, computers, music and traditional dance. The children also study and are taught in the large open-air covered learning center, in the library, or in the computer room. Also at the Orphanage is an open community meeting area in the largest building at Palm Tree, which separates the boys' and girls' dormitories and bathrooms. Additional dormitory rooms for the girls have been built in the recently acquired villa. New to the orphanage is a detached kitchen and a covered, open-air dining facility, as well as two newly furnished guest rooms for volunteers. The children have room to play, create and exercise at Palm Tree. There is a band practice room on site, as well as a large arts, crafts and ceramics room, a sewing room, a large play area for soccer, volleyball and other activities, and a spiritual meditation room. The medical clinic and lab is set up above the pre-school, and it services the staff and children at the Orphanage.
